CRITICAL AREAS WE SUPPORT:

ISRAEL AND OVERSEAS
Allocations to programs in Israel and overseas help support Jewish communities in need and foster our connection to Israel and Jews around the world. Allocations include our commitment to Operation Promise, which helps Ethiopian Jews make aliyah to Israel.

The Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) is our primary partner in Israel.  The Jewish Agency supports the resettlement of new immigrants and refugees in Israel, provides educational and social welfare resources for communities in need, and strengthens Jewish identity worldwide through programs for youth and young adults.

As part of this relationship, Ottawa and five other Canadian communities participate in the Coast-to-Coast Partnership 2000 program, through which we have a special relationship with the Eztba Hagalil (Galilee Panhandle) region of Israel.  These funds also support Israel-related programs in our own community.

The Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) is our partner in addressing critical rescue and relief needs in the former Soviet Union, Argentina and more than 60 other countries around the world.

NATIONAL COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY
Our Federation is part of a network of Canadian federated and regional communities through United Israel Appeal Federations Canada (UIAFC). and across North America through United Jewish Communities (UJC). Through these coordinating bodies we support domestic advocacy, national campus services and Jewish immigrant resettlement services.

Advocacy – Canadian Council for Israel and Jewish Advocacy (CIJA), the  Canada-Israel Committee (CIC), and Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC) represent the interests of the Canadian Jewish community at federal, provincial and municipal levels.

Campus Services - The National Jewish Campus Life (NCJL) provides funding and other resources to support Jewish campus programs throughout Canada.

Immigration Services - The Jewish Immigrant Aid Society (JIAS) provides information, counseling, resettlement and funds for relief services to new immigrants throughout Canada.

OTTAWA JEWISH SCHOOLS
Allocations to Jewish day and supplementary schools help foster a stronger Jewish identity and involvement in Jewish life. To view the complete report on school funding for 2008-09 see link to school funding report here.>>

LOCAL AGENCY PROGRAMS
The Jewish Federation of Ottawa supports 20 local beneficiary organizations through program-based funding.  These programs serve the spectrum of the Ottawa Jewish community- from social and cultural services, to community engagement and Jewish identity.  For details on how your contributions support our partner agencies, see Local Agency and Program Funding below.

FEDERATION PLANNING AND COMMUNITY SERVICES
Jewish Federation of Ottawa operations include Planning and Allocations; Communications and Community Relations and the Jewish Leadership Development Institute.

ANNUAL CAMPAIGN
Fundraising costs of the Annual Campaign include marketing, supplies and salaries. For every dollar raised, only thirteen cents are used to cover these expenses, well below the industry standard.  Key activities of the Annual Campaign include: Canvasser Training, Campaign Kickoff, Lion of Judah Dinner, Telethon, Choices, Mitzvah Day, Walkathon and the Annual Federation Golf Tournament.

CAMPUS & MAINTENANCE

Community dollars are directed to support the administration and maintenance of the central community campus (Broadview & Kerr), including the funding of a Campus Capital Reserve Fund and shared campus costs such as security.

LOCAL AGENCY & PROGRAM FUNDING

With your support and generosity, the Jewish Federation of Ottawa works with our partner agencies to build a community that adheres to the values of Tikkun Olam, Klal Yisrael and Tzedakah. Where your money goes 2009-2010
